** Competing for Space Superiority? | SCFVideo9Space Court Foundation – YouTube

Outer space is often described as the “ultimate high-ground”, as the prize at the end of a cosmic race. The winner will be granted the limitless advantages provided by “space-superiority”. Is that really true? Is that the way everyone sees political dynamics playing out in space? Is that the way it needs to be? Videos: “Space to Ground” + Other ISS reports – May.14.2021

Here is the latest episode in NASA’s Space to Ground weekly report on activities related to the International Space Station:

** Higher Power in space | Thomas Pesquet & Coldplay – ESA

To celebrate the premiere of @Coldplay‘s latest single ‘Higher Power’, the band linked up for an extraterrestrial video chat with French ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet, who is currently on a six-month mission on board the International Space Station. A specially recorded performance of Higher Power – featuring dancing alien holograms – was beamed up to Thomas, who gave the track its very first play on board the Station. The song’s premiere followed a conversation which took in similarities between life on tour and life on the Space Station, how planet Earth looks from space and its fragility; and how Thomas listens to music in microgravity. ** Space Café WebTalk – Law Breakfast with Steven Freeland #2 – 25. March 2021spacewatch. global – News Room – YouTube

In the latest Space Café “Law Breakfast with Steven Freeland”, Steven Freeland and Torsten Kriening welcomed Prof Tanja Masson-Zwaan and Prof PJ Blount to the historic Café Barerra in Leiden.

Over croissant and coffee, the panelists, along with a lively audience engaged in a revealing and insightful discussion dealing with many legal issues arising from everyday space activities, including the following:

the proposed Dubai Space Court
the unique features of commercial space contracts
how to resolve space disputes
what to do when international events overlap with the delivery of space satellites (in this case from Japan to Myanmar)
making movies in space
space tourism (gone mad?)
the problems and benefits of large constellations of small satellites
our ‘rights’ to a dark sky
the overall balance needed to determine what might be ‘appropriate’ space activities in the future
The panelists also gave their ‘one word’ to describe the wonders of space law – a tradition for all guests at the Space Café Law Breakfasts. Space law certainly means many things to many people and is such an interesting and relevant concept, even to the non-lawyers in the audience.

** The Dark Arts in Space: Developments in Counterspace Weapons (Video) | Secure World

Moderator Kaitlyn Johnson is joined by Brian Weeden, Victoria Samson, and Joe Moye as they discuss their latest reports and answer audience questions.

** 101 – Zero Trust, Global Data Interoperability and Breaking SilosConstellations Podcast

Listen to Nicolas Chaillan, U.S. Air Force Chief Software Officer, describe the importance of the U.S. DoD to bring relevant software features to the war-fighter in a timely manner. Space and Cyber are big domains that were often overlooked in the past; however, the next battles are definitely going to involve them. The warfighter will need access across all domains to share not only data, but the ability to reuse code and software. Mr. Chaillan talked about zero trust being foundational to enable connectivity across systems while ensuring people only have access to what is appropriate to their needs. He described how Cloud One and Platform One will bring about this interoperability; Cloud One providing access to the cloud and Platform One bringing DevSecOps – continuous integration, continuous delivery of software. He also provided information on the Iron Bank, a centralized repository of hardened containers for the industry to use as they pursue development alongside the DoD. He discussed having containers from the Iron Bank and the entire stack instantiating automatically across classification levels as being game changers. Mr. Chaillan talked about increasing the cyber posture of the department by having more eyes on code and more people to bring back value. Timeliness is essential, so there is always the most updated version effectively instantiating a DevSecOps environment at the edge – whether on a jet, on a bomber, anywhere required in the space system.

“Space in Miniature 3.1 – Space Shuttle” : Updated reference book for modelers now available

Mike Mackowski of Space In Miniature sent me the following announcement:

Space In Miniature 3.1 – Space Shuttle is Released

Challenger model. Credits: Space in Miniature

A complete revision of the third installment of the Space In Miniature (SIM) series of reference books for spacecraft modelers is now available. This book has all the information a modeler will need to build an accurate, detailed model of the Space Shuttle. Originally published in 1990, 24 pages have been added to this soft-cover book that now features color covers. Nearly all of the original material has been updated or replaced with new drawings and articles. Due to the increased page count, a few articles have been moved to an upcoming new SIM book on Shuttle payloads.

SIM #3.1 – Space Shuttle focuses on NASA’s reusable spaceplane, featuring scale drawings showing the various thermal protection patterns used on all six Orbiters and how they evolved over the entire 30+ years of Shuttle operations. The 61-page book also includes four detailed articles on building Space Shuttle models, and seven pages of kit reviews and a list of after market parts. There are a total of 78 drawings and photographs, plus several tables and the cover photos.

This book is printed in black and white on coated paper, and is available both as a hard copy as well as a full-color pdf file. This guidebook will be a unique resource for the serious space modeler. A hard copy of SIM #3.1 – Space Shuttle sells for $12 plus shipping, while a pdf download costs $10. A combination package of both the hard copy and digital version is available for only $15 plus shipping. To order, see www.spaceinminiature. com or send an email to mike@spaceinminiature.com. The other titles in the SIM series are still available.
