I’ve mentioned previously that the Mars Curiosity rover LEGO model designed by Stephen Pakbaz , who had worked as an engineer on the real Curiosity rover at JPL, would become a commercial product from LEGO. The project was part of the LEGO® CUUSOO hobbyists program, which has seen some of their other models become production products for LEGO as well.
This past week LEGO announced that the model will hit the store shelves on January 1st:
The bulk of Reid and Goddard’s book is devoted to a science-fiction exploration of mankind’s potential future among the stars. The Lego mining astronauts of tomorrow find themselves building moon and Mars bases, working with intelligent robots, constructing wormholes to distant worlds, and even battling evil aliens and mad scientists that have infiltrated their ranks. All of this is illustrated in detailed photographs of Lego brick spaceships and stations. There’s even instructions on how to build your own version of some of the vehicles.
The Orbital Sciences Cygnus module berthed successfully to the International Space Station yesterday. Orbital thus becomes the second commercial firm after SpaceX to provide cargo delivery services to the station.
