Spudis is as delusional as ever when it comes to believing that SLS would get us efficient lunar capability with or without a much higher budget. He also appears to be one of those people unaware of the Booz-Allen-Hamilton report. Just because SLS development is on time now doesn’t mean it would be 5 years from now, higher budget or not.
Wonder what he is going to say when SpaceX puts the Moon within reach as a byproduct of aiming for Mars?
Yep, with SpaceX, ULA, Orbital, etc. building and flying modern rockets and SpaceX and ULA offering to build super heavy lifters bigger and far cheaper than SLS, it’s absurd to talk about SLS as a placeholder. It’s simply a way to hold on to an extremely expensive infrastructure that holds back progress.
