Sci-Tech: CogniMem sells neural network pattern recognition devices

CogniMem Technologies Inc. is a Northern California based company that specializes in hardware devices for fast pattern recognition applications.  Their  technologies include the CogniMem™ CM1K neural network chip and modules with the chip. They also offer software for training, testing and implementation of the neural networks.

The CogniStix is one of their latest products:

CogniStix™ is a compact, low cost USB-powered Hardware Neural Network device. It contains the ideal module for simplifying the evaluation of the capabilities and performance of the CM1K for performing machine learning and pattern matching using the component classifiers RBF and KNN.

The CogniStix Evaluation Platform includes everything needed to get started. It has been designed for simplicity of deployment, speed and low-power consumption.

CogniStix can also be used by system integrators for rapid prototyping. This hardware accelerator can enhance new and/or existing product performance, and/or simplify application development, reducing time-to-market.

An announcement in my email says they are offering a special price on the CogniStix:

Don’t Miss out on the $99 Promotion.
Prices go up to on September 15th 2014

Add Artificial Intelligence to any application easily by using CogniStix.
The CogniStix Evaluation Platform comes with the CogniSoft SDK and three Demonstration Assets.

Video: Robert Zubrin at NASA Ames gives Mars Direct update

Robert Zubrin gave the following talk this summer at NASA Ames Research Center on his Mars Direct plan, first proposed in the 1990s, for putting humans on the Red Planet at an affordable cost and in a finite time:

From the caption:

Achieving a human mission to Mars has been a fascination of humanity for some time. In the 1990s, Dr. Robert Zubrin proposed the “Mars Direct” mission architecture, using conventional rockets and Mars in-situ resources to establish a sustained human presence on Mars. Now, with the nation debating how to proceed with human space exploration, the “Mars Direct” plan is more relevant than ever: Can Americans reach the Red Planet in our time?

Robert Zubrin, formerly a staff engineer at Lockheed Martin Astronautics in Denver, is now president of his own company, Pioneer Astronautics. He is a Fellow of the British Interplanetary Society and former Chairman of the Executive Committee of the National Space Society. He is the founder of the Mars Society; an international organization dedicated to furthering the exploration and settlement of Mars by both public and private means.

The Director’s Colloquium Summer Series is presented by the Office of the Chief Scientist at NASA’s Ames Research Center as part of the Center’s 75th anniversary celebration.
