July 8, 2001

Over the past few days I checked all external and relative links after processing the pages with my LinkWatch program.

HobbySpace now holds over 12,000 external links.

I generally try to find the correct URLs for dead links, except those in the archives, but this is often not possible.

In particular, many news article links, such as press releases displayed at Yahoo and stories at newspapers, become disconnected over time. Worse, even some of the space news sites such as Space.com and Spacedaily drop their older links despite their archival significance.

On the other hand, its common for a site to go down occasionally for a few days due to maintainence or a change of host. If I suspect this is the case, I leave the link but the [ -- Error -- ] tag is left in the link name so that I can watch the link in case it reappears.
