As noted here \u00a0back in March (see\u00a0First images from the UV telescope on Chang\u2019e-3 lander<\/a>), the\u00a0International Lunar Observatory Association<\/a>\u00a0(ILOA) based in Hawaii is\u00a0collaborating with\u00a0the National Astronomical Observatories -Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC) and the\u00a0China National Space Administration (CNSA) in the use\u00a0of the\u00a0Lunar Ultraviolet Telescope<\/a>\u00a0(LUT) on the Chang’e 3<\/a>\u00a0spacecraft\u00a0that landed on\u00a0the lunar surface in December 2013.<\/p>\n

It has long been proposed that the Moon could provide an excellent location\u00a0on which to do astronomical observations. It provides a stable platform for telescopes\u00a0and has no atmosphere to blur images or to\u00a0block UV light. Though the LUT is \u00a0is a very small telescope, it sets a precedent for lunar astronomy.<\/p>\n

Galaxy observation is a key goal of the LUT and the ILOA yesterday posted the following in the\u00a0Lunar Enterprise Daily<\/a>:<\/p>\n
