Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts at Stanford University<\/a>\u00a0is presenting an exhibition of artist\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Robert_Rauschenberg\" target=\"_d\" rel=\"noopener\">Robert Rauschenberg<\/a>&#8216;s\u00a0works that he created in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/connect\/artspace\/creative_works\/feature-inception.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NASA sponsored art program<\/a> during the\u00a0Apollo era:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em><a href=\"http:\/\/museum.stanford.edu\/news_room\/Rauschenberg.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cantor Exhibition Presents Rarely Seen Art by Robert Rauschenberg Documenting First Manned Flight to the Moon:\u00a0Loose in Some Real Tropics: Robert Rauschenberg\u2019s \u201cStoned Moon\u201d Projects, 1969\u201370<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em>December 20, 2014\u2013March 16, 2015<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Here is a review of the show:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/art\/article\/Art-review-Robert-Rauschenberg-views-the-moon-5968681.php\" target=\"_d\" rel=\"noopener\">Art review: Robert Rauschenberg views the moon mission &#8211; SFGate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/50th\/50th_magazine\/arts.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[]<br \/>\n<em>\u201c<\/em><\/a><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/50th\/50th_magazine\/arts.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hot Shot<\/a>\u201d &#8211; Lithograph by Robert Rauschenberg. This work was created to share and express the artist\u2019s belief in the spiritual and physical improvement of life and the mind through curiosity.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>===<\/p>\n<p>Artist\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ninawaisman.net\/\" target=\"_d\" rel=\"noopener\">Nina Waisman<\/a>\u00a0will join\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.seti.org\/artist-in-residence\" target=\"_d\" rel=\"noopener\">the SETI Institute\u2019s Artist in Residence Program<\/a>\u00a0along with five other artists:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.utsandiego.com\/news\/2014\/dec\/18\/nina-wasiman-seti-institute-artist-in-residence\/\" target=\"_d\" rel=\"noopener\">Nina Waisman named artist-in-residence with SETI Institute &#8211; UTSanDiego.com<\/a>\u00a0&#8211;<\/p>\n<p id=\"h1964167-p8\" class=\"permalinkable\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>I&#8217;m expecting that the research I engage in at SETI will blow my mind, and then re-settle it over time along paths and materials that will add up to provocative art experiences, based on what I&#8217;ve learned by dialoguing and\/or collaborating with these esteemed scientists.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p id=\"h1964167-p9\" class=\"permalinkable\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>SETI started the artist-in-residence program in 2011 with artist Charles Lindsay, a Guggenheim Fellow who remains with SETI as the artist-in-residence program leader. The effort has also involved artists Martin Wilner, Danny Bazo, Karl Yerkes and Marko Peljhan.<\/em><\/p>\n<p id=\"h1964167-p10\" class=\"permalinkable\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201cSETI Institute\u2019s research is motivated by our primal interest in other life and other beings,\u201d said senior astronomer Seth Shostak. \u201cIt\u2019s a very human endeavor. And so is art, after all it\u2019s one of the things that distinguishes us from every other life form on this planet. Art is the one thing that\u2019s unique about our world. The one thing that ET doesn\u2019t already have. Well, she may have art, but not our kind of art!
