{"id":825,"date":"2013-02-24T17:37:45","date_gmt":"2013-02-24T17:37:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=825"},"modified":"2013-02-24T17:41:13","modified_gmt":"2013-02-24T17:41:13","slug":"canadian-asteroid-finder-to-be-launched-on-monday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=825","title":{"rendered":"Canadian asteroid finder to be launched on Monday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday at 1226 GMT (7:26 a.m. EST), or 5:56 p.m. local time, India will launch six satellites on a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Polar_Satellite_Launch_Vehicle\" target=\"_d\">Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle<\/a>. The PSLV will lift off from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Satish_Dhawan_Space_Centre\" target=\"_d\">Satish Dhawan Space Centre<\/a> on Sriharikota Island, which is India&#8217;s main launch site.<\/p>\n<p>Included in the batch of satellites is the Canadian <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asc-csa.gc.ca\/eng\/satellites\/neossat\/\" target=\"_d\">NEOSSat<\/a> spacecraft, which has a small telescope that will be used to find <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/163693_Atira\" target=\"_d\">Atira<\/a> class asteroids, which orbit the sun entirely within the earth&#8217;s orbit: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.space.com\/19926-asteroid-hunter-interview-alan-hildebrand.html\" target=\"_d\">Asteroid Hunter: An Interview with NEOSSat Scientist Alan Hildebrand &#8211; Space.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>NEOSSat will also scan for satellites and debris circling the earth.<\/p>\n<p>NEOSSat was built by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mscinc.ca\/heritage\/neossat.html\" target=\"_d\">MSCI (Microsat\u00a0 Systems Canada, Inc)<\/a>, which previously built the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mscinc.ca\/heritage\/most.html\" target=\"_d\">MOST (The Microviability and Oscillation of Stars) microsatellite<\/a>, a low cost spacecraft that is still in operation several years past its originally planned lifespan.<\/p>\n<p>Here are two Canadian Space Agency videos about NEOSSat:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ErsWk-Wkfek?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iVNO6mUMR1Q?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday at 1226 GMT (7:26 a.m. EST), or 5:56 p.m. local time, India will launch six satellites on a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle.
