{"id":7711,"date":"2014-05-07T09:45:47","date_gmt":"2014-05-07T13:45:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=7711"},"modified":"2014-05-07T09:46:13","modified_gmt":"2014-05-07T13:46:13","slug":"payload-carrier-for-small-experiments-ready-for-xcor-lynx-flight-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=7711","title":{"rendered":"Payload Carrier for small experiments ready for XCOR Lynx flight test"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An announcement from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.citizensinspace.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Citizens in Space<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.citizensinspace.org\/2014\/05\/lynx-cub-payload-carrier-ready-for-flight-test\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>New Space Research Platform Ready For Flight Test<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n<em>Lynx Cub Payload Carrier Developed at Texas A&amp;M<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>College Station, Texas (May 7, 2013)<\/strong> \u2013 The United States Rocket Academy announced the delivery of the first <a href=\"http:\/\/www.citizensinspace.org\/2013\/03\/new-research-platform-to-fly-on-xcor-lynx-spacecraft\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lynx Cub Payload Carrier<\/a>, a new research platform which promises to dramatically reduce the cost of access to space for small scientific and education payloads.<\/p>\n<p>The Lynx Cub Carrier will fly on the <a href=\"http:\/\/xcor.com\/lynx\/\" target=\"_blank\">XCOR Lynx spacecraft<\/a>, which is now under construction at the Mojave Air and Space Port.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #111111; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.citizensinspace.org\/2013\/03\/new-research-platform-to-fly-on-xcor-lynx-spacecraft\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-6565 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.citizensinspace.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Cub-Ext-Web-Blue.jpg\" alt=\"Lynx Cub Payload Carrier (artist's concept)\" width=\"461\" height=\"369\" \/><\/a><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.citizensinspace.org\/2013\/03\/new-research-platform-to-fly-on-xcor-lynx-spacecraft\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lynx Cub Payload Carrier<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Lynx Cub Payload Carrier is a versatile system that installs in the Lynx cabin, behind the pilot\u2019s seat, allowing small experiments to be carried as secondary payloads on any Lynx flight,\u201d said United States Rocket Academy chairman Edward Wright. \u201cThe Cub Carrier can be installed and removed quickly for frequent, low-cost flight opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Lynx Cub Carrier is an ideal platform for small materials-processing, fluid-physics, life-science, and engineering experiments. University teaching and research, K-12 education, citizen science, government and industrial R&amp;D will all benefit from the convenient simple interfaces, rapid integration, and affordability of Lynx Cub experiments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #111111; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #0b6492;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.citizensinspace.org\/2013\/03\/new-research-platform-to-fly-on-xcor-lynx-spacecraft\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-6568 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.citizensinspace.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Cub-Int-Web-Blue.jpg\" alt=\"Lynx Cub Payload Carrier (artist's concept) internal view\" width=\"451\" height=\"361\" \/><\/a><em>Experiment payloads\u00a0in the carrier<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Lynx Cub Carrier was developed by the United States Rocket Academy and the Space Engineering Research Center, part of the Texas A&amp;M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES), with support from <a href=\"http:\/\/xcor.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">XCOR Aerospace<\/a>. Design and fabrication of the Lynx Cub Carrier were performed by Texas A&amp;M faculty and students and TEES researchers.<\/p>\n<p>Citizens in Space, a project of the United States Rocket Academy, will use the Lynx Cub Carrier on 10 Lynx missions. I can&#8217;t wait to hear how it performs in the flight test.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Space Engineering Research Center, part of the Texas A&amp;M Engineering Experiment Station in College Station, is also a member of XCOR\u2019s global network of payload integrators, which provides value-added services for Lynx payload customers. TEES is an engineering research agency of the State of Texas and a member of The Texas A&amp;M University System.<\/p>\n<p>XCOR Aerospace, which is developing the suborbital, fully reusable Lynx spacecraft for a variety of scientific and commercial missions, is currently headquartered in Mojave, California. The company will relocate its headquarters to Midland, Texas later this year.<\/p>\n<p>The United States Rocket Academy, a non-profit educational organization that studies and promotes the scientific, military, and commercial applications of human spaceflight, is also located in Texas.
