{"id":53,"date":"2013-01-15T23:26:26","date_gmt":"2013-01-15T23:26:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=53"},"modified":"2013-01-18T01:39:13","modified_gmt":"2013-01-18T01:39:13","slug":"citizen-scientists-to-analyze-the-surface-of-mars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=53","title":{"rendered":"Citizen scientists to analyze the surface of Mars"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/planetfour.org\/#\/about\" target=\"_d\">Planet Four<\/a> is a citizen science project from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zooniverse.org\">Zooniverse<\/a>, which is accumulating a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zooniverse.org\/projects\">plethoria of projects<\/a> for public participation:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gizmag.com\/planet-four-analyze-mars\/25801\/\" target=\"_d\">Scientists need you to analyze unseen images of Mars &#8211; Gizmag<\/a> (via <a href=\"http:\/\/behindtheblack.com\/behind-the-black\/points-of-information\/volunteers-are-needed-to-analyze-images-from-mars\" target=\"_d\">Behind The Black<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Planet Four invites you<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>to help planetary scientists identify and measure features on the surface of Mars . . . the likes of which don\u2019t exist on Earth. All of the images on this site depict the southern polar region, an area of Mars that we know little about, and the majority of which have never been seen by human eyes before!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The goal is<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>to find and mark \u2018fans\u2019 and \u2018blotches\u2019 on the Martian surface. Scientists believe that these features indicate wind direction and speed. By tracking \u2018fans\u2019 and \u2018blotches\u2019 over the course of several Martian years to see how they form, evolve, disappear and reform, we can help planetary scientists better understand Mars\u2019 climate.
