(BTW, the first launch of the SpaceX <a href=\"http:\/\/spaceflightnow.com\/falcon9\/006\/130920staticfire\" target=\"_blank\">Falcon 9 v1.1<\/a> had to wait 2 weeks for another launch window due to the fact the Western Range switched to these missile tests after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spacex.com\" target=\"_blank\">SpaceX<\/a> missed its first window.)<\/p>\n<p><em>A LGM-30Minuteman rocket, also known as a Minuteman III, was successfully launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base Sunday morning, September 22, 2013, at 3:01 PDT. Currently it is the only land-based ICBM in service in the United States. Each missile carries three nuclear warheads, which have a\u00a0<a title=\"Nuclear weapon yield\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nuclear_weapon_yield\">yield<\/a>\u00a0in the range of 300 to 500\u00a0<a title=\"TNT equivalent\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/TNT_equivalent\" target=\"_blank\">kilotons<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The letter \u201cL\u201d in \u201cLGM\u201d indicates that the missile is\u00a0<a title=\"Missile silo\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Missile_silo\" target=\"_blank\">silo<\/a>-launched; the \u201cG\u201d indicates that it is designed to attack ground targets; the \u201cM\u201d indicates that it is a\u00a0<a title=\"Guided missile\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Guided_missile\" target=\"_blank\">guided missile<\/a>.<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/LGM-30_Minuteman#cite_note-autogeneratedmil-1\" target=\"_blank\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The ICBM was named Minuteman after the Revolutionary War\u2019s Minutemen who were able to respond quickly to a threat in the late 1770s.
