Another medium for space models turns out to be fabric.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.planetary.org\/about\/staff\/emily-lakdawalla.html\" target=\"_d\">Emily Lakdawalla<\/a>, a senior editor and blogger at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.planetary.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Planetary Society<\/a>, has posted recently about using <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Plastic_canvas\" target=\"_d\">plastic canvas<\/a> to model scientific space probes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.planetary.org\/blogs\/emily-lakdawalla\/2012\/3341.html\" target=\"_d\">Geek craft: GRAIL twins Ebb and Flow in plastic canvas &#8211; The Planetary Society<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.planetary.org\/blogs\/emily-lakdawalla\/2012\/3332.html\" target=\"_d\">The Dawn spacecraft, modeled in an unlikely medium &#8211; The Planetary Society<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.planetary.org\/blogs\/emily-lakdawalla\/2012\/3341.html\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"SpaceCraft\" src=\"http:\/\/planetary.s3.amazonaws.com\/image\/Ajy3M2pCQAADqLL.jpg-large_lg.jpg\" width=\"358\" height=\"269\" \/><\/a><em><br \/>\n&#8220;Ebb, Flow, New Horizons, MESSENGER, and Dawn, <\/em><em>all to<br \/>\nthe same scale (about 1:50).&#8221;<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.planetary.org\/blogs\/emily-lakdawalla\/2012\/3341.html\" target=\"_blank\">Emily Lakdawalla, Planetary Society<\/a><\/p>\n<p>She also wrote about using the Japanese <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Amigurumi\" target=\"_d\">Amigurumi knitting <\/a>technique:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.planetary.org\/blogs\/emily-lakdawalla\/2010\/2550.html\" target=\"_d\">Amigurumi: How I channeled my adrenaline while watching Hayabusa&#8217;s return &#8211; The Planetary Society<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/geekdad\/2010\/03\/the-force-is-strong-with-amigurumi\/\" target=\"_d\">The Force Is Strong with Amigurumi &#8211; GeekDad\/Wired.com<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>NASA and the on-line crafts site <a href=\"http:\/\/www.etsy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Etsy<\/a> had a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/connect\/artspace\/participate\/etsy-space-craft-contest.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>space-crafts<\/em> competition<\/a> in 2011 and a number of weaved space items were submitted.\u00a0 Unfortunately, Etsy took down most of the web pages displaying the entries and winners a few months after the end of the contest.
