{"id":4148,"date":"2013-08-26T05:26:56","date_gmt":"2013-08-26T05:26:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=4148"},"modified":"2013-08-26T05:26:56","modified_gmt":"2013-08-26T05:26:56","slug":"checking-in-on-the-n-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=4148","title":{"rendered":"Checking in on the N-Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.n-prize.com\/\" target=\"_d\">The N-Prize<\/a> offers two cash Prizes, each of \u00a39,999.99 (nine thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine pounds and ninety-nine pence, sterling)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>to the first persons or groups to put into orbit around the Earth a satellite with a mass of between 9.99 and 19.99 grams, and to prove that it has completed at least 9 orbits<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>One prize will go to an expendable vehicle and the other to a reusable one:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The cost of the launch, but not ground facilities, must fall within a budget of \u00a3999.99. Entrants for the RV Prize may exceed this budget, but must demonstrate recovery of hardware such that the per-launch cost remains within \u00a3999.99.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The contest started out as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.halfbakery.com\/idea\/N-Prize#1203710516\" target=\"_blank\">something of a lark<\/a> but there turned out to be a lot of enthusiasm for\u00a0 it simply as a milestone for the many people interested in really, really low cost nano\/pico sat launch:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The N-Prize is a challenge to launch an impossibly small satellite into orbit on a ludicrously small budget, for a pitifully small cash prize.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Eventually, over <a href=\"http:\/\/www.n-prize.com\/teamsmap.html\" target=\"_blank\">50 teams<\/a> got involved.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t tell from the N-Prize website, though, how many teams remain active.
