Some will carry Amateur Radio payloads.<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/activities.tjhsst.edu\/cubesat\/index.php\">TJ REVERB<\/a>, developed by students at Thomas Jefferson High School in Alexandria, Virginia, will carry a 145.825 MHz APRS digipeater.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/uw.edu\/huskysatellitelab\/huskysat-1\">HuskySat<\/a>, a University of Washington \u2013 Seattle project, will be boosted into a 500-kilometer (approximately 310-mile) orbit via the Cygnus external deployment device. HuskySat will carry a V\/U linear transponder provided in cooperation with AMSAT.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>** <strong>China launch included CubeSat Taurus-1 \u00a0(Jinniuzuo-1)\u00a0with amateur radio transponder<\/strong> for involving students in satellite communications: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arrl.org\/news\/taurus-1-cubesat-with-fm-to-codec-2-transponder-launched\" target=\"_d\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Taurus-1 CubeSat with FM-to-Codec-2 Transponder Launched &#8211; ARRL.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>The Taurus-1 (Jinniuzuo-1) CubeSat carrying an Amateur Radio FM-to-Codec-2 transponder was launched on September 12 from China\u2019s Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center. The CubeSat was developed by Aerospace System Engineering Research Institute of Shanghai for youth education and Amateur Radio.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>** <strong>Students participate in CubeSat projects at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acser.unsw.edu.au\/\" target=\"_d\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Australian Centre for Space Engineering Research (ACSER)<\/a> <\/strong>at University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia: <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.unsw.edu.au\/news\/science-tech\/satellites-reveal-sea-state-and-much-more-eye-can-see\" target=\"_d\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Satellites to reveal sea state and much more than the eye can see | UNSW Newsroom<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>Professor Andrew Dempster of UNSW\u2019s School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications has been developing and trialling a new type of receiver that looks for satellite navigation signals bounced from the Earth\u2019s surface in a process called reflectometry.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>As he explains, reflectometry looks at the GPS signals that come directly from satellites as well as where, and at what angle, the signals bounce off the earth\u2019s surface. He and his colleagues have built four generations of receivers that are designed to look for these bounced GPS signals from satellites overhead.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>\u201cThis most recent generation of our GPS receivers we have put into space aboard CubeSats,\u201d Professor Dempster says, who is also director of the Australian Centre of Space Engineering Research.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The centre&#8217;s first project was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acser.unsw.edu.au\/QB50\" target=\"_d\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UNSW-EC0 QB50-AU02 CubeSat<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>&#8230; Over the past 5 years the team has seen over 100 members work on the project, including students, staff and volunteers.
