{"id":19430,"date":"2019-08-12T09:00:14","date_gmt":"2019-08-12T13:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=19430"},"modified":"2019-08-12T00:08:45","modified_gmt":"2019-08-12T04:08:45","slug":"student-and-amateur-cubesat-news-roundup-aug-12-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=19430","title":{"rendered":"Student and amateur CubeSat news roundup &#8211; Aug.12.2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A sampling of recent articles, press releases, etc. related to student and amateur <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/CubeSat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CubeSat<\/a> \/ SmallSat projects and programs:<\/p>\n<p>** <strong>Virginia Tech awarded NASA contract to launch and operate the LAICE CubeSat<\/strong> (Lower Atmosphere\/Ionosphere Coupling Experiment) as a part of the agency&#8217;s CubeSat Launch Initiative program. <a href=\"https:\/\/govmik.com\/Solicitation\/LAICECUBESAT\" target=\"_d\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lower Atmosphere\/Ionsphere Coupling Experiment CubeSat &#8211; Gov Mik<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The spacecraft will study to<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>&#8230;what extent do Gravity Waves influence the coupling of the Earth&#8217;s upper atmosphere and the lower ionosphere\/mesosphere\/thermosphere.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Virgin Tech team led the LAICE CubeSat project but they were<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em> unable to attain an FCC license and therefore LAICE has been shelved indefinitely.
