{"id":19255,"date":"2019-07-16T09:30:53","date_gmt":"2019-07-16T13:30:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=19255"},"modified":"2019-07-16T00:25:06","modified_gmt":"2019-07-16T04:25:06","slug":"student-and-amateur-cubesat-news-roundup-july-16-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=19255","title":{"rendered":"Student and amateur CubeSat news roundup &#8211; July.16.2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A sampling of recent articles, press releases, etc. related to student and amateur <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/CubeSat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CubeSat<\/a> \/ SmallSat projects and programs:<\/p>\n<p>** <strong>University built <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.nnu.edu\/research\/rftsat\">RFTSat<\/a> to test space-based solar power microwave transmission<\/strong> system: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.propagation.gatech.edu\/2019\/07\/15\/launch-of-rfsat-this-sunday\/\">Launch of RFTSat this Sunday! &#8211; The Propagation Group\/Georgia Tech<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>This Sunday, a Falcon 9 rocket will launch a SpaceX Dragon capsule that will rendezvous with the International Space Station. \u00a0Part of this mission will include <a href=\"https:\/\/engineering.nnu.edu\/research\/rftsat\">RFTSat<\/a>, developed by a team of Northwest Nazarene University (Boise, Idaho) led by Prof. Joshua Griffin and a team of Georgia Tech Researchers in ECE. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>This CubeSat experiment will have a unique RF energy-harvesting radio designed and built by the Georgia Tech Propagation Group. PhD student researcher Cheng Qi has built a one-of-a-kind microwave backscatter reader and tag-sensor combo that will drive the mission science package.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>The low-powered reader designed by our team deploys a sensor that unfurls a distance away from the spacecraft. The reader then energizes and receives backscatter information from the device using a 5.8 GHz transmission.
