As described in the <a href=\"https:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=18132\">March posting<\/a> about the contest, the band <a href=\"http:\/\/okgo.net\/\">OK Go<\/a>, which had <em><a title=\"Upside Down &amp; Inside Out - How We Did It\" href=\"https:\/\/okgosandbox.org\/upside-down-inside-out\/making-upside-down-inside-out\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">made a music video in microgravity<\/a>, <\/em>wanted to encourage young people between ages 11-18 to do their own art projects in space and they came up with the idea of a contest:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The Art in Space contest invited students to dream up their own cool experiments to send into suborbital space onboard <a title=\"Blue Origin New Shepard Website\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blueorigin.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the [Blue Origin] New Shepard spacecraft.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-gray-dark leading-normal text-center\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">The two winning teams will work with engineers, artists and educators from the Playful Learning Lab, in consultation with Blue Origin and OK Go, on flight ready versions of their ideas.<\/p>\n<p>The responses of the winners when informed of their selection were captured in this video:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BEWERj0HpF0?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>One of the two winning teams is based in New York and includes students Alexandra Slabakis (16), Grace Clark (16), and Annabelle Clark (12). The team\u2019s project is called \u201cDark Origin\u201d and will use gravity and magnetism to simulate the origin of planet Earth.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>The second winning team is based in Utah and includes students Cameron Trueblood (11), Blake Hullinger (12), and Kellen Hullinger(15). Their design proposes using environmental data taken during the space craft\u2019s flight to create sounds and visual art.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em> \u201cWe were thrilled with the entries to the Art In Space contest &#8211; picking winners was so hard!\u201d said OK Go lead singer Damian Kulash. \u201cThe submissions were all so imaginative, and really exemplified the type of thinking and creativity that OK Go is always striving for in our own work. The kids, especially our winners, clearly understand the truth that so many adults have lost along the way: there are no borders separating art and science \u2014 they\u2019re the same thing. It all comes from curiosity and experimentation, and creativity is really just about exercising those skills.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>*** <strong>You can also send your artwork to space and back via a New Shepard<\/strong>.
