Space Apps Challenge + Robonaut 2 Challenge + A need for big challenges too"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/spaceappschallenge.org\/\" target=\"_d\">International Space Apps Challenge<\/a> is underway this weekend.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The International Space Apps Challenge is an international mass collaboration focused on space exploration that takes place over 48-hours in cities around the world. The event embraces collaborative problem solving with a goal of producing relevant open-source solutions to address global needs applicable to both life on Earth and life in space. NASA is leading this global collaboration along with a number of additional government collaborators and 100+ local partner organizations.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>See the <a href=\"http:\/\/spaceappschallenge.org\/challenges\/\" target=\"_blank\">50 challenges here<\/a>.\u00a0 And the <a href=\"http:\/\/spaceappschallenge.org\/locations\/\" target=\"_blank\">locations<\/a> around the world where the teams are competing.<\/p>\n<p>===<\/p>\n<p>NASA <a href=\"http:\/\/www.topcoder.com\/iss\/robonaut\/\" target=\"_d\">Robonaut Challenge<\/a> is also happening this month. It challenges programmers to code a couple of particularly useful tasks for the humanoid-like <a href=\"http:\/\/robonaut.jsc.nasa.gov\/default.asp\" target=\"_d\">Robonaut 2<\/a> on the ISS.<\/p>\n<p>===<\/p>\n<p>Ed Wright endorses the modest sized challenge competitions like those above but says NASA should also continue to support important major challenges with big prizes as they did with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/directorates\/spacetech\/centennial_challenges\/lunar_lander\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Lunar Lander Challenge<\/a> competition: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.citizensinspace.org\/2013\/04\/robonaut-programming-challenge\/\" target=\"_d\">Robonaut Programming Challenge &#8211; CitizensInSpace.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The International Space Apps Challenge is underway this weekend.
