{"id":1744,"date":"2013-04-19T19:42:24","date_gmt":"2013-04-19T19:42:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=1744"},"modified":"2013-04-19T20:06:26","modified_gmt":"2013-04-19T20:06:26","slug":"3-winners-selected-in-space-video-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=1744","title":{"rendered":"3 winners selected in space video contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An announcement from the <a href=\"http:\/\/spacecoalition.com\">Coalition for Space Exploration<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><b>Three winners selected in \u201cWhy Space Matters to the Future\u201d<br \/>\nnational video contest<\/b><br \/>\n<i>The Coalition for Space Exploration and the NASA Visitor Center Consortium successfully complete first collaborative outreach effort<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>HOUSTON<\/b> \u2013The <a href=\"http:\/\/spacecoalition.com\">Coalition for Space Exploration<\/a> (Coalition) and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitnasa.com\/\">NASA Visitor Center Consortium<\/a> are pleased to announce the winners of the \u201cWhy Space Matters to the Future\u201d video contest: Addie Augsburger, Clyzzel Samson, and Elizabeth Paddock. The winning entries were selected for both their creative demonstrations of the importance of space exploration and their unique visions for the future if the boundaries of space continue to expand.<\/p>\n<p>Three out-of-this-world prizes will be awarded to the winners for a trip for four, one to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kennedyspacecenter.com\/\">Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex<\/a> in Florida, one to the <a href=\"http:\/\/rocketcenter.com\/\">U.S. Space and Rocket Center<\/a> in Alabama and one to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spacecenter.org\/\">Space Center Houston<\/a> in Texas. Winning videos will be featured on the Coalition and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitnasa.com\">VisitNASA.com<\/a> websites, shared through social media networks, and shown to NASA executives and elected officials in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a lead of the NASA Visitor Center Consortium, I&#8217;m pleased that our collaboration with the Coalition was able to help demonstrate public interest in space exploration,\u201d said Mike Kincaid, Director of External Relations for Johnson Space Center. \u201cPartnerships like these are valuable to spreading the word about NASA\u2019s missions and I look forward to all of us working together again in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In her first place winning <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Nz2dpEva4Dg&amp;feature=youtu.be\">video<\/a>, Augsburger uses a hand-drawn storyboard concept to inform viewers of the many benefits derived from the U.S. space program. She shows how continued exploration can provide a platform for research that cannot be done on Earth which could reveal new discoveries, and potentially lead to the colonization of other planets.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Nz2dpEva4Dg?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Samson, who takes second place, uses her <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=z1eNs2qBvsQ&amp;feature=youtu.be\">narrative<\/a> to describe how space exploration has given us \u201cheroes\u201d who have inspired us to reach beyond our current limitations of exploration. She emphasizes that space exploration is a human enterprise, not limited to one nationality, gender or economic status. The video also encourages viewers to invest in future generations.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/z1eNs2qBvsQ?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In third place, Paddock <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=S6RaswOBO6o&amp;feature=youtu.be\">showcases<\/a> her 3-year-old twin boys, who have been avid space fans since they were 18 months old. Through vivid imagery, Paddock describes how the exploration of space has brought several countries \u2013 and brothers \u2013 together through effective teamwork, and how it has provided mankind with many benefits. The twins, looking through a large telescope, ask their father: \u201cCan we go to the Moon?\u201d and \u201cCan we go to Mars?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/S6RaswOBO6o?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Coalition thanks all who participated in this contest and values the strong entries submitted by people across the country,\u201d said George Torres, chairman of the Coalition. \u201cWe also thank NASA and the NASA Visitor Center Consortium for their collaboration which enabled us to expand our reach significantly.
