{"id":1724,"date":"2013-04-18T18:04:40","date_gmt":"2013-04-18T18:04:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=1724"},"modified":"2013-04-18T18:04:40","modified_gmt":"2013-04-18T18:04:40","slug":"google-lunar-x-prize-team-summit-roundup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=1724","title":{"rendered":"Google Lunar X PRIZE team summit roundup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s a report on the recent gathering of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.googlelunarxprize.org\/\" target=\"_d\">Google Lunar X PRIZE<\/a> teams in Chile: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.googlelunarxprize.org\/blog\/lunar-roundup-2013-team-summit-chile?utm_source=XPRIZE+Opt-in+Mailing+List&amp;utm_campaign=24e8ebe3a0-Newsletter_April_18_2013&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_d\">Lunar Roundup: 2013 Team Summit in Chile &#8211;\u00a0 Google Lunar X PRIZE<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>20 of the teams were available to make presentations at the Summit, and a few key pieces of information came along:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Name Change!:<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<a title=\"White Label Space's Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.googlelunarxprize.org\/teams\/white-label-space\" target=\"_blank\">White Label Space<\/a> recently became based exclusively in Japan, and as a result, they will be changing their team name! While they haven&#8217;t finalized the new name, an official announcement and change will be happening soon.<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>2015 Express!:<\/strong><\/em> <a title=\"Moon Express' Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.googlelunarxprize.org\/teams\/moon-express\" target=\"_blank\">Moon Express<\/a> mentioned in their presentation\u00a0that <a title=\"[Image] Moon Express: 2015 Mission\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/glxp\/status\/319824044264402944\/photo\/1\" target=\"_blank\">they are planning for a 2015 launch<\/a>!\u00a0This puts them in a tight race with a lot of other teams who have largely mentioned early 2015 as a timeline (e.g. <a title=\"Omega Envoy's Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.googlelunarxprize.org\/teams\/omega-envoy\" target=\"_blank\">Omega Envoy<\/a>&#8216;s <a title=\"'Lunar Roundup: Including You', with Omega Envoy's Mission Plan Unveiled\" href=\"http:\/\/www.googlelunarxprize.org\/blog\/lunar-roundup-including-you\" target=\"_blank\">planned Q2 2015<\/a>), with <a title=\"Barcelona Moon's Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.googlelunarxprize.org\/teams\/barcelona-moon-team\" target=\"_blank\">Barcelona Moon<\/a> <a title=\"Galactic Suite Signs Contract with Chinese Launcher to Send Rover to the Moon in June 2014\" href=\"http:\/\/www.googlelunarxprize.org\/teams\/barcelona-moon-team\/blog\/galactic-suite-signs-contract-chinese-launcher-send-rover-moon-june\" target=\"_blank\">having a launch service contract for June 2014<\/a>\u00a0and Astrobotic <a title=\"SpaceX success brings Pittsburgh space startup closer to mission\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/pittsburgh\/news\/2012\/05\/29\/spacex-success-brings-pittsburgh-space.html\" target=\"_blank\">signed up for a launch with SpaceX in October 2015<\/a>. The race is on&#8230;<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Masten and NASA!:<\/strong><\/em> <a title=\"Astrobotic's Page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.googlelunarxprize.org\/teams\/astrobotic\" target=\"_blank\">Astrobotic<\/a> announced that <a title=\"NASA Selects Astrobotic to Demonstrate Asteroid and Moon Landing Technology\" href=\"http:\/\/www.astrobotic.com\/2013\/04\/04\/nasa-selects-astrobotic-to-demonstrate-asteroid-and-moon-landing-technology\/\" target=\"_blank\">they have been selected by NASA to fly guidance tests<\/a> on a <a title=\"Masten Space\" href=\"http:\/\/masten-space.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Masten Xaero rocket<\/a>! The helicopter-driven tests (which simulate lunar gravity conditions) will help demonstrate technology for future landers to &#8216;pull an Armstrong&#8217;: make directional adjustments once they&#8217;ve realised that their planned landing location is unsafe.
