In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/ems\/09_visiblelight\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">visible light<\/a>, the reflecting\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.qrg.northwestern.edu\/projects\/vss\/docs\/space-environment\/2-what-is-interstellar-dust.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dust<\/a>\u00a0of the nebula\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apod.nasa.gov\/apod\/ap090521.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">appears blue and shaped like a horse&#8217;s head<\/a>. In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/ems\/07_infraredwaves\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">infrared light<\/a>, however, a complex labyrinth of filaments, caverns, and cocoons of glowing dust and gas emerges, making it hard to even\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apod.nasa.gov\/apod\/ap140727.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">identify the equine icon<\/a>. The featured image of the nebula was created in three infrared colors (R=22, G=12, B=4.6\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Micrometre\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">micron<\/a>s) from data taken by NASA&#8217;s orbiting\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpl.nasa.gov\/wise\/overview.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wide Field Infrared Survey Explorer<\/a>\u00a0(WISE) spacecraft.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.robgendlerastropics.com\/IC4592-WISE-mouseover.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The nebula<\/a>\u00a0is cataloged as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/IC_4592\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IC 4592<\/a>\u00a0and spans about 40 light years, lying about 400 light years away toward the constellation\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Scorpius\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scorpius<\/a>\u00a0along the plane of our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.atlasoftheuniverse.com\/galaxy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Milky Way<\/a> Galaxy.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wise.ssl.berkeley.edu\/gallery_ic4592.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IC 4592<\/a>\u00a0is fainter but covers an angularly greater region than the better known\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apod.nasa.gov\/apod\/ap171227.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Horsehead Nebula<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apod.nasa.gov\/apod\/ap161204.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Orion<\/a>.
