Much of it will be burnt up but some of the 9 tonne spacecraft will reach the ground (or more likely, the ocean waves).\u00a0\u00a0The current estimate is that the station will meet its doom sometime on April 1st (and that&#8217;s no joke).<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/C0GBlCJCkr0?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.virtualtelescope.eu\/webtv\/\">Virtual Telescope&#8217;s WebTV<\/a>\u00a0 is offering updates on the space station&#8217;s return:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/40111-watch-chinese-tiangong-1-space-station-demise.html\">Watch China&#8217;s Tiangong-1 Space Station in Real Time As It Nears Its Demise &#8211; Space.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>It&#8217;s unclear how much of Tiangong-1 will survive the journey, but it&#8217;s possible some pieces will fall to the ground. The station has an orbital inclination between 43 degrees north and 43 degrees south latitudes, so it could fall anywhere\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/40082-china-space-station-where-will-it-fall.html\">within those bands<\/a>. But experts point out that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/40098-chinese-space-station-crash-like-nasa-skylab.html\">Tiangong-1 is much smaller than the NASA Skylab space station<\/a>, parts of which crashed into remote areas of Australia in 1979, so most of it may\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/40096-tiangong-space-station-destroyed-reentry-atmosphere.html\">burn up during re-entry<\/a>.
