Long before totality (when the Moon is only covering part of the Sun\u2019s face), go to a nearby tree and look in the shade of the tree\u2019s shadow.\u00a0 You will see hundreds<\/b> of crescent images of the partially covered Sun all over the ground!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In fact, this is a safe way to view all the partial phases of the eclipse without harming your eyes.\u00a0 Where do all these many images come from?\u00a0 The gaps between the tree\u2019s leaves act like a pinhole camera by projecting the Sun\u2019s image on the ground.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
