Cargo includes over 20 student experiments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.SpaceX.com\" target=\"_blank\">SpaceX<\/a> Dragon cargo spacecraft, <a href=\"http:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=13934\" target=\"_blank\">launched last Sunday<\/a> from the Kennedy Space Center, berthed today to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/mission_pages\/station\/main\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">International Space Station<\/a>. Astronauts on the station reached out with a robotic arm, snagged the Dragon, and then attached the craft to the station:<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OyinPlh8A98?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Dragon carries over 5,000 pounds (2300 kg) of supplies, hardware, and research materials, including 21 experiments from students in grade school through high school who are participating in the <a href=\"http:\/\/ssep.ncesse.org\/\" target=\"_d\">Student Spaceflight Experiments Program<\/a>\u00a0(SSEP) . This is the 9th SSEP mission to the ISS:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/ssep.ncesse.org\/current-flight-opportunities\/ssep-mission-9-to-the-international-space-station-iss\/\" target=\"_d\">SSEP Mission 9 to the International Space Station (ISS)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/ssep.ncesse.org\/communities\/experiments-selected-for-flight\/selected-experiments-on-ssep-mission-9-to-iss\/\" target=\"_d\">Selected Experiments on SSEP Mission 9 to ISS | SSEP Community Network<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/ssep.ncesse.org\/ssep-in-the-news\/in-the-news-ssep-mission-9-to-iss\/\" target=\"_d\">SSEP Mission 9 to ISS &#8211; News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>SSEP is a\u00a0partnership of\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/ncesse.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Center for Earth and Space Science Education (NCESSE)<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nanoracksllc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">NanoRacks, LLC,<\/a>\u00a0a company that provides standardized experimental platforms on the ISS and also deploys small satellites into orbit from the station.<\/p>\n<p>NanoRacks also co-sponsors <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dreamup.org\/our-team\/\" target=\"_blank\">DreamUp<\/a>, a program to help young people crowd-fund, build, and launch experiments\u00a0into space. The Dragon cargo included a DreamUp project:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dreamup.org\/dreamup-blog\/\/another-big-dreamup-launch-on-spacex-10\" target=\"_d\">Another big DreamUp launch on SpaceX-10! \u2014 DreamUp<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>This was a really exciting launch for the team at DreamUp as we had the fantastic V3PO students fly all the way from Germany to join us for the launch. These students crowd-funded their plant-growth research project and got some great advisors on board, including Airbus and BASF Crop Protection. With the team put together, the students commenced their vegetative plant propagation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Learn more about the plant growth experiment <a href=\"https:\/\/agriculture.basf.com\/en\/Crop-Protection\/Space-Farming.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<br \/>\n&#8230;<br \/>\nAll together, DreamUp was able to bring over 55 student researchers and advisors to this launch. We really saw our students\u2019 perseverance when on the first planned launch date\u2026the launch was scrubbed with just 13 seconds to go!
