Yesterday Copenhagen Suborbitals<\/a>\u00a0launched their\u00a0rocket\u00a0Nex\u00f8 I<\/a>, their most advanced vehicle yet,\u00a0from a floating platform in the Baltic Sea. (See earlier posting<\/a>). The good news is that the rocket lifted off successfully with its liquid-fueled engine<\/a>\u00a0(Ethanol and Liquid Oxygen) and active guidance system and\u00a0was successfully recovered. The bad news is that it failed to reach its planned altitude and the parachute system failed to open:\u00a0The Nex\u00f8 I rocket launched – Copenhagen Suborbitals<\/a>\u00a0–<\/p>\n

It was a beautiful launch with a not so great landing. The rocket flew to about 1514 meters before a catastrophic failure\u00a0occurred.<\/em><\/p>\n

Even though it didn\u2019t go completely as planed we still see it as a partially success. A lot of sub systems actually work as they should.<\/em><\/p>\n

We managed to recover the rocket. We will therefore have a good\u00a0chance of finding the root cause of the\u00a0failure.<\/em><\/p>\n

We will post more about the launch and crash after we have had a closer look at the rocket and telemetry data.<\/em><\/p>\n
