Among the most expensive items was a set of 15 gold-colored plaster casts of the right hand of 15 NASA astronauts, including those of Neil Armstrong and the ubiquitous Buzz Aldrin. The casts, which sold for $155,000, were used to make perfectly fitting space suit gloves in 1967. Produced at the OK\u0431-1[OKB-1], the Experimental Design Bureau-1 factory, also known as the S. P. Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia, in 1957 sometime prior to the launch of the Sputnik-1&#8230;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bonhams.com\/auctions\/23378\/lot\/1\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Continue<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>&#8212;<\/p>\n<p>This article\u00a0discusses not just the Bonham auction but space memorabilia collecting in general:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/2016\/07\/dont-rich-part-space-history\/\">Buying Space Memorabilia Can Be Cheaper Than You\u2019d Think &#8211; WIRED<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Still, [Robert Pearlman of <a href=\"http:\/\/collectSpace.com\" target=\"_blank\">collectSpace.com<\/a>] says, it doesn\u2019t have to be an expensive hobby. \u201cYou don\u2019t need to be able to afford anything more than a stamp,\u201d he says, to send NASA a request for an astronaut autograph. \u201cBonhams represents a very specific audience. Their bid amounts and their valuations are high\u2014not unheard of and not unwarranted for what they\u2019re auctioning.
