The end of January and the beginning of February bring anniversaries of US space program catastrophes.\u00a0Today marks 30 years since the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster<\/a>\u00a0that led to the deaths of\u00a0Francis R. Scobee<\/a><\/span>,\u00a0Michael J. Smith<\/a><\/span>,\u00a0Ronald McNair<\/a><\/span>,\u00a0Ellison Onizuka<\/a><\/span>,\u00a0Judith Resnik<\/a><\/span>,\u00a0Gregory Jarvis<\/a><\/span>, and\u00a0Christa McAuliffe<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Yesterday, Jan. 27th, was the 49th anniversary of the Apollo 1 fire<\/a> that killed astronauts\u00a0Virgil I. “Gus” Grissom<\/a>, Edward H. White<\/a>, and Roger B. Chaffee<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And next Monday, Feb. 1st, will mark the 13th anniversary of the\u00a0Space Shuttle Columbia disaster<\/a>\u00a0in which\u00a0Rick D. Husband<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>William C. McCool<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Michael P. Anderson<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Kalpana Chawla<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>David M. Brown<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Laurel Clark<\/a>, and\u00a0<\/span>Ilan Ramon<\/a>\u00a0were killed.<\/span><\/p>\n
