{"id":10378,"date":"2015-04-15T10:15:40","date_gmt":"2015-04-15T14:15:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=10378"},"modified":"2015-04-15T10:15:40","modified_gmt":"2015-04-15T14:15:40","slug":"an-overview-of-the-maker-movement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=10378","title":{"rendered":"An overview of the Maker Movement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hobbyspace.com\" target=\"_blank\">HobbySpace.com<\/a>\u00a0was founded to make the case to the public that\u00a0space was not an area only for engineers and scientists in the government and big companies but that there were many real and tangible ways for regular folk to participate\u00a0in space. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hobbyspace.com\/SatBuilding\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">AMSAT and student satellite projects<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hobbyspace.com\/Rocketry\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">rocketry<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hobbyspace.com\/Radio\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">space radio<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hobbyspace.com\/Astronomy\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">astronomy<\/a>, and many other space related activities have long involved hands-on building and operation of hardware by enthusiasts and not just specialists. With the cost of access to space dropping, we will see \u00a0increasing participation of the public with space activities.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, \u00a0in the past decade the Maker Movement,\u00a0in a similar spirit, has has sought to convince\u00a0the public that\u00a0building and modifying real, tangible things is not just for those with elite knowledge\u00a0but something they can do as well.
