{"id":10222,"date":"2015-03-25T01:03:31","date_gmt":"2015-03-25T05:03:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=10222"},"modified":"2015-03-25T01:03:31","modified_gmt":"2015-03-25T05:03:31","slug":"lunar-orbiter-image-recovery-project-needs-a-boost-to-cross-the-finish-line","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=10222","title":{"rendered":"Lunar Orbiter Image Recovery Project &#8211; needs a boost to cross the finish line"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lunar_Orbiter_Image_Recovery_Project\" target=\"_d\">Lunar Orbiter Image Recovery Project<\/a>, underway since 2008,\u00a0is\u00a0crowd-funding the\u00a0completion of the processing\u00a0of images of the Moon taken by five early unmanned lunar missions and recovered from magnetic tape:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiegogo.com\/projects\/lunar-orbiter-image-recovery-project-last-mile\" target=\"_d\">Lunar Orbiter Image Recovery Project Last Mile &#8211; Indiegogo<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/V__9BIP4fbA?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Between further NASA funding and $62k raised by crowd funding in 2013 we have completed the process of digitizing almost 1500 tapes, the entire tape library from lunar orbiter. \u00a0 \u00a0This has created tens of terabytes of data, and over 1700 images. \u00a0Each medium resolution image is broken into 28 strips or framelets. \u00a0Each high resolution image is made from 98 framelets. \u00a0Each framelet is a file.
