A\u00a0paper reporting on research carried out with the help of\u00a0more than\u00a04900 participants in the citizen science project\u00a0Radio Galaxy Zoo<\/a>, a member\u00a0of the\u00a0Zooniverse<\/a>\u00a0array\u00a0of citizen science\u00a0projects, has been\u00a0submitted to\u00a0a scientific journal:\u00a0First Radio Galaxy Zoo paper has been submitted! –\u00a0Galaxy Zoo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0goal of the project is to take advantage of the image recognition capabilities of the volunteers to classify radio and infrared\u00a0images of galaxies where supermassive black holes are believed to be hiding behind clouds of gas and dust. Such images are messy and not easily defined in a way that\u00a0a computer algorithm can properly characterize them.<\/p>\n

We find that the RGZ citizen scientists are as effective as the science experts at identifying the radio sources and their host galaxies.<\/em><\/p>\n
