{"id":1003,"date":"2013-03-07T06:42:33","date_gmt":"2013-03-07T06:42:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=1003"},"modified":"2013-03-07T06:43:08","modified_gmt":"2013-03-07T06:43:08","slug":"space-training-for-suborbital-spaceflight-needed-or-not","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hobbyspace.com\/Blog\/?p=1003","title":{"rendered":"Training for suborbital spaceflight &#8211; needed or not?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kristian von Bengtson of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.copenhagensuborbitals.com\/\" target=\"_d\">Copenhagen Suborbitals<\/a> is skeptical of the need for specialize training for people going on suborbital space flights: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/wiredscience\/2013\/03\/why-training-for-a-suborbital-spaceflight-is-just-another-great-story-at-the-local-chesterfield-club\/\" target=\"_blank\">Why Training for a Suborbital Spaceflight is Just another Great Story at the Local Chesterfield Club &#8211; Wired Science\/Wired.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll note that there have usually been three reasons given for suborbital spaceflight training such as that provided at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nastarcenter.com\/aerospace-training\/space\" target=\"_blank\">NASTAR Center<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>To insure that those with potential health issues, e.g. advanced age and cardiovascular problems, can do the flight safely<\/li>\n<li>To allow suborbital spaceflight ticket holders to practice the zero-g phase with parabolic flights so they can maximize their enjoyment during the five minutes at the apogee of their flight.<\/li>\n<li>To include training as part of the whole experience of the spaceflight, which is very expensive at this early stage.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>These all seem perfectly reasonable to me and I expect training to remain a part of suborbital adventure spaceflights even if its true that most people would survive a suborbital space flight without it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kristian von Bengtson of Copenhagen Suborbitals is skeptical of the need for specialize training for people going on suborbital space flights: Why Training for a Suborbital Spaceflight is Just another Great Story at the Local Chesterfield Club &#8211; Wired Science\/Wired.com.
