Horizons Newsletter Jan/Feb 2013 with 4th part of Colliers Magazine space series

The AIAA Houston Section has released the latest  issue of the Horizons Newsletter is now on line.

January/February 2013 Issue

It includes a wide range of articles on topics such as space Kickstarter projects, Science Fiction by Scientists,  andSarah Brightman’s planned trip to the ISS.

It also includes the fourth installment of the reproduction of the Colliers Magazine series on space from 1952-1954.  (See this previous posting about the third installment.)

Chris Hadfield’s advice translated into inspirational cartoons

Many people are being inspired by Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield who is creating great music and amazing photographs during his stay on the International Space Station and tweeting about his activities to the public. Australian artist Gaving Aung Than of the Zen Pencils site took some of Hadfield’s remarks given during a recent Reddit Ask Me Anything session and turned them into motivational cartoons:

Bryan Versteeg has developed a very distinctive and impressive style of illustration of future space habitats, asteroid mines, Mars bases and other space facilities. See galleries of his images and videos at Space Habs by Bryan Versteeg.

For example, he created the asteroid mining images for Deep Space Industries, Inc.
