I've heard from a reliable source that Patti Grace Smith will soon be leaving her job as head of the FAA's Commercial Space Transportation office She has been with the office since 1994 and as Associate Administrator since June 1998. In the speeches that I've heard from her, she has been a strong advocate for the entrepreneurial space transportation companies, emphasizing that they need a period of development with enough regulation to protect the uninvolved public but not so much as to snuff out the sector at birth.
