Ares 1 first stage PDR delayed [Update]; Getting first dibs on a Shuttle

Delaying the preliminary design review for the first stage doesn't sound so good for the Ares 1 program: NASA admits "significant threats to performance" of Ares I launcher - Flight Global.

Maybe they will go with a zero base launcher to fly a zero base capsule: Saving spaceship Orion - Zero Base Vehicle task complete - nasaspaceflight.com - Oct.1.07. Not sure what constitutes a zero base crew, though...

Flying Ares 1/Orion with crews by 2015 is starting to look iffy cashflow-wise anyway: NASA funding problem threatens Orion's March 2015 launch target - Flight Global - Nov.5.07.

[Update: NASA Watch is told by NASA that the first stage PDR slip won't affect the test flight schedule: Ares I First Stage PDR Slips - NASA Watch.]

Meanwhile, museums are starting to buzz hungrily around the shuttles: Countdown is on and museums want to land shuttles for exhibits - OrlandoSentinel.com

nothing new... I've said that 15 months ago in my (July 28, 2006) article "Why the 5-segments SRB can't work"

Why doesn't NASA just get rid of their people and outsource everything to gm?
They should be able to fix all of the problems with Ares I with gm working on it.
Funny how gm doesn't allow comments on HIS web site, but goes to other space web sites and makes all kinds of comments!

Gaetano, Please stop posting links to your website all over the space blogosphere. It is getting really annoying.
