Bigelow and Space Florida open investment fund

A reader points to this announcement of a collaboration between Bigelow Aerospace and Space Florida to study creation of a COTS-like fund called the Florida Space Transportation Initiative that would "support the development of a new, orbital space transportation system located at the Kennedy Space Center" : Space Florida and Bigelow Aerospace Join Forces to Explore Orbital Space Transportation Initiative - SpaceRef/Space Florida - Nov.1.07.

This follows recent statements from Robert Bigelow about plans to award a $760M contract to the first company that can provide 8 flights with crew and passengers to his habitats starting in 2010.

More details should come out within a month or so about all this.

Comments

This is great to hear! A second "COTS" will hopefully re-energize the Florida sector.

I'm not too sure if they can pull it off in under two years, but if they can they will give some much needed competition to SpaceX (who I figure will end up transporting crew members to future BA stations).

Another example of the sad state of the American education system - how does the author of the article go from "are studying the idea" to "Open Investment Fund"...???!?!?!

p.s. - maybe you can find a different verification engine that doesn't freeze midstream, leading to double posting of comments..? :-)
