Video: Astronaut Barry Wilmore keeps up with SEC football on the ISS

Following American college football from the Int. Space Station:

Aboard the International Space Station, Expedition 41 Flight Engineer Barry “Butch” Wilmore of NASA discussed football and other aspects of sports and life on orbit with the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Network during an in-flight interview Oct. 23. Wilmore, who arrived on the station in late September, is an avid football fan with degrees from Tennessee Tech University and the University of Tennessee, which is a member of the SEC. Wilmore will remain aboard the station until March 2015.

  1. Being the total and quintessential science geek that I am, football (especially conversation about football) is about as interesting to me as watching paint dry. At least he used the event to show people some of the aspects of life in micro-gravity.

  2. Considering what Alabama is likely to do to the Vols this Saturday, I wish I felt the same. Unfortunately, after growing up with UT football as the local religion, ignoring the next game is not something I’ve been able to accomplish.

I’ll note that a physics friend from grad school in California who never had had any interest in football or other sports has become quite Vols fan after working at ORNL for 30 years. Must be something in the air…
