The two year, six month window mindset to Mars must be eliminated. Research and development of advanced upper stage propulsion systems must be accelerated and come to fruition. Regular monthly flights to Mars must be established, and regular monthly return flights must also be established. Review history. No successful settlements on earth existed without it. Fusion Rockets, Solar Powered VASIMR, and momentum exchange tethers need to be developed. Along with the Holy grail, reusable rockets!
