Landing on an aircraft carrier as it rises, falls, rolls and tilts with the waves is considering one of the most demanding feats in aviation. Yesterday, a Northrop Grumman X-47B , a prototype unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV) , demonstrated for the first time that a large robotically controlled aircraft could do it just like a human pilot:
