New space related competitions seem to appear about every day. From asteroid tagging to space tourism rides to sci-fi writing, there is something for everyone to pursue. The Planetary Society Offers $50,000 Prize to"design "a mission to rendezvous with and 'tag' a potentially dangerous near-Earth asteroid". Over 100 teams from around the world have entered as of June 2007.

Pete Conrad Spirit of Innovation Award

The X PRIZE Foundation sponsors this award for high school aged students who "develop a new, innovative concept to benefit the personal spaceflight industry within the next 50 years."

NASA Centennial Challenges Power beaming climber - X PRIZE Cup 2006
NASA's technology incentive prizes program recently gave out $200k to the winner of an astronaut glove contest. On going competitions range in areas from lunar regolith excavation to space elevator tethers and climbers.
